One huge thing most people never hear about is likely our least favorite thing about selling on Amazon... Copy Cats.
Click HERE to watch the video, filmed by Clara, age 11.
When we first decided to put our utensils on Amazon, there were no other utensils like ours. This includes our flat sautes, tera scrapers, spreaders, and combo sets like our Trifecta and Essentials. It's no surprise that there was nothing like it because those utensils were all designed by us years ago.
Unfortunately, there is software that can be used with Amazon to find out other companies sales, their most popular products, the quality of their listings, their conversion rates, and a rating that specifically tells you how easy it would be to introduce a similar product and take away some of their business.
This is why when you search for something on amazon, there is almost always 3 or 4 different companies that make something very similar. One company was first... sales were good... then copycats started attacking and making it difficult to differentiate their product from the original.
We've sold on Amazon for years now, and there are copy cats of our utensils all over the place.
Our new "competitors"...
- copy our products (which we spent years fine tuning)
- try to use our pictures, or take their own pictures that look just like ours
- use a slightly modified version of the text in our listing (that we came up with from scratch)
- sometimes make their utensils from the same woods we use (which we chose after testing about 20 different woods)
- create company names similar to ours (like Moonwood and Artwood)
They even bid on the keyword Earlywood so their products show up when shoppers are specifically trying to find our utensils.
We always try to purchase one of their copies when we see them to do our own comparisons. Take a quick watch of the video below to see what we have found.
Imposters are usually made in China, Turkey, Romania, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. They cut corners...literally.
